INDIANAPOLIS — With selection Monday on the horizon, the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee announced its top 16 ranking during a reveal at halftime of the game between Duke and North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The top 16 correspond to the teams that are assigned a seed grouping from 1 to 4 in the 64 team NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship bracket.
Based on results through games of Oct. 11, Notre Dame is the top team at this point of the season while leading the nation in winning percentage (.958) and sitting second in points per game (10.50) and third in total goals (43).
The remainder of the top four is set with Virginia, Tennessee and Baylor. The top four seeds are crucial, as if the seeds hold those four teams would have the opportunity to host quarterfinal matches with a bid to the Women’s College Cup on the line.
The remainder of the top eight includes TCU, Florida State, Georgetown and Duke.
Rounding out the rest of the ranking are West Virginia, Colorado, Michigan State, Iowa, Arkansas, Memphis, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
The ranking is based on the criteria used to select and seed the 64 teams for the Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, and in no particular order includes strength of schedule, Rating Percentage Index, head-to-head competition, results versus common opponents, strength and results against non-conference opponents, late-season performance in the last eight games and strength and results against conference opponents.
The 2025 championship field will consist of 30 automatic qualifiers and 34 at-large selections, which will be revealed on Monday, November 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
During selections, the committee will identify the top 32 teams, seeding them into four groupings of 1 to 8. The top 16 teams will be identified in rank order and assigned a seed grouping from 1 to 4.
The tournament opens on Friday, Nov. 14. The championship will take place at campus sites through the quarterfinals as teams look to earn a trip to the Women’s College Cup.
The 2025 Women’s College Cup travels to CPKC Stadium in Kansas City. The semifinals are set for 6 p.m. ET and 8:45 p.m. ET on ESPNU on Friday, Dec. 5. The championship is slated for 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU on Monday, Dec. 8.
