Western Carolina's Taron Dickens shattered the NCAA record for most consecutive passes completed on Saturday, October 4, completing his first 46 passes against Wofford.
Dickens started the day 46-of-46 for 325 yards and three touchdowns to set a new record for consecutive completions in a single game. Dickens also completed his final four passes against Campbell a week prior, giving the signal caller 50 consecutive completions, the most of any player in a single-season.

Dickens found eight different wide receivers during his first 46 completions, also adding 28 rushing yards. Of his 46 completions, James Tyre caught 13 passes for 102 yards and all three touchdowns.
Despite Dickens' remarkable start, Western Carolina still trailed 21-20 by the time he threw his first incompletion on pass No. 47 with 10:32 to play in the fourth quarter. The Catamounts trialed after going 1-3 on fourth down at that point. On the play after Dickens' first incompletion, Western Carolina had a 32-yard field goal blocked, still trailing 21-20.

When Dickens got the ball back to start a new streak of completions, the score remained the same, with the ball at his own 34-yard line. With everything on the line, Dickens continued his passing clinic. Dickens went 7-for-9 passing for 53 yards, adding 8 rushing yards on three attempts to get Western Carolina in field goal range. The drive ended with a go-ahead, game-winning field goal with 23 seconds left to win 23-21, capping off a historic day from Taron Dickens.
Dickens finished 53-of-56 passing (94%) for 378 yards and three touchdowns. He accounted for over 90 percent of Western Carolina's 466 total yards.

It's not the first wild stat line from Dickens either; he's done it in all three of his starts since taking over in Week 4. In his first start against Samford he went 35-of-46 (76.1%) for 582 yards and six touchdowns. In his second start against Campbell he went 26-of-40 (65%) for 427 yards and four touchdowns.
The NCAA record is the icing on the cake for Taron Dickens amazing great start to his 2025. It's launched him into an elite status as a potential Walter Payton Award contender.
